Celebrating the launch of the Global Serviced Apartment Industry Report (GSAIR) 2024

27 July 2024

A month on, we reflect on the much anticipated launch of GSAIR; this year marks the 11th edition.

This year marks the 11th edition of GSAIR. In 2023, we celebrated a big milestone in the 10th edition, however 2024 has allowed us to share new successes, that reach beyond a decade long marker.

As always, GSAIR is unwavering in its commitment and purpose – to delve into the challenges and opportunities within the serviced apartment industry and to provide valuable analysis and insights into perspectives from buyers, agents and intermediaries, and operators.

There was a sense of pride and anticipation in the air as the crowd gathered for our annual GSAIR launch event on the 27th June at the Charlotte Street Hotel in London – a culmination of many months of hard work, collaboration and generous contribution.

This year we tweaked the format to allow for a slightly later start (not such an early rise for our guests), and we split the event across 2 distinct sessions, bookended by a welcoming mini breakfast and a tasty networking lunch.

Spaghetti and playdough

Before the opening session, Ariosi’s Head of Training, Tracie Crombie, got us all warmed up and thinking on our feet with an ice breaker activity inspired by The Marshmallow Challenge.

The goal was for all our guests to work in teams and build the tallest structure they could engineer, using only dry spaghetti and playdough – we were amazed at how quickly all participants activated their competitive streak and quite literally got their hands dirty. A more brazen team even took the opportunity to bend the rules in an attempt to win (no cheating).

It was a perfect collective display of different personality types and communication styles, and a chance to have a bit of fun whilst learning.

Mark Harris, a key figure in the world of GSAIR, again presented the top findings and key takeaways, before expertly facilitating a panel discussion, which included Steve Lowy, Chris Orme, Nouran Zarroug, and Leanne Fowler.

Our morning of all things GSAIR allowed us to delve more deeply into the hot topics and trends out of this year’s report, with numerous subject matter experts gathering under one roof and sharing their perspectives in a live, collaborative environment – there was some thought provoking and intelligent debate to be had, alongside some interesting discussion and speculation about the future shape of the serviced apartment industry.

We received a record number of high quality contributions to GSAIR in 2024 – a real mixture of top notch interviews, mini panel sessions, guest writers, and guest press articles meant we had to work hard to fit it all in to our publication – each year we’re more delighted by the generosity and superb industry spirit displayed by all that come to sit at the GSAIR table.

This year, as in previous years, we have been fortunate to work with diverse contributors, each offering unique expertise and viewpoints. Special thanks again to all those that make GSAIR possible, not least the GSAIR team: Shani, Alison, Helen, Alice, Mark and Tracie. The growth of the team, along with the significant contributions, keeps us inspired and optimistic about what might happen next.

Stay tuned for our GSAIR regional reports – GSAIR EMEA due out early September with The Americas and APAC editions to follow across the course of 2024. Our smaller, bite size, regionals ensure we keep content fresh and forward looking. See you then!
